Celtic music is a "group sport," with a long-standing tradition of playing together in casual social settings. In this workshop learn the basic elements of Celtic music and how to work with students on melody, rhythm and left hand patterns appropriate to Celtic style. Sample tunes will include the various types of trad tunes (jigs, slip jigs, reels, hornpipes) for solo repertoire and also some accompaniment patterns that work for playing backup in group settings.. Most of the traditional tunes are easy to learn for intermediate level if done at a slow enough tempo and beginners can learn (even one hand) bass lines and backup that allow them to take part in a group session or harp ensemble.
